FCS Extension Welcomes Seven New Extension Agents

September 20, seven new county Extension Agents for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) completed a one-day orientation with FCS administrators and state staff.  We welcome them to their new roles serving families in seven Kentucky counties and introduce them to you.

September 2012 Agents

  • Jessamine County is fortunate to welcome Porsha Batts as the new Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences.  She began work there on August 20. Porsha received a Bachelor of Science in Family Science from the University of Kentucky in December 2011.  While a student at UK, she worked as an FCS intern in the Mason County Extension Office and as a teaching assistant for the Department of Family Sciences.  She also served as a College of Agriculture Student Ambassador.

  • We are pleased to welcome Clare Kincaid as the new Jackson County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences.  Clare received a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in December 1988.  She also has post baccalaureate hours in the Master of Social Work program with emphasis in family and community from the University of Kentucky.  She will begin working in Jackson County on October 1.  Most recently Clare has worked with the Christian Appalachian Project as a housing and outreach caseworker.

  • Hannah Leonard, the new Boyd County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, will begin work there on October 8. Hannah graduated from the University of Kentucky in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Family Science and a minor in Kinesiology and Health Promotions.  She has worked as a nanny since 2008.  While a student, Hannah was active in many organizations, both on campus and off campus.  These included the Student Athletic Council, the Christian Student Fellowship and the UK Service Dog program, where she trained four service dogs that went to children with disabilities.

  • Anna McCoy began work as the Fulton County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences on September 10.  She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Child and Family Studies.  Anna is no stranger to the Cooperative Extension Service.  She previously worked as a University of Tennessee Extension intern in Obion County, Tennessee.  She has also worked as an Extension volunteer in the Hickman and Fulton County Extension offices in Kentucky.

  • Teresa Montgomery began work as the new Knox County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences on September 18.  She has worked as Assistant Professor at the University of the Cumberlands, as Family and Consumer Science teacher at North Laurel High School and as an Early Care and Education Trainer and Evaluator for Somerset Community College. Teresa holds a bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science from Eastern Kentucky University.  She also holds a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Rank I in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education.

  • Monique Pearce is employed by Kentucky State University (KSU) and is the new KSU Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences in Jefferson County.  She began work there on September 4, 2012.  Becoming a County Extension Agent has been her goal for some time. She received a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences with concentration in Child Development and Family Relations from North Carolina Central University in 2010.  In 2011, she earned a Master of Science from North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University in Agricultural Education.

  • The new Lyon County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences is Angie York.  She is scheduled to begin work there on October 1.  Angie graduated Cum Laude in 2000 from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences.  She is certified to teach grades 5-12 in the state of Kentucky.  She has most recently been employed as a Crisis Response Specialist by the Purchase Area Sexual Assault and Child Advocacy Center to coordinate volunteer recruitment and associated activities.  She has also worked as the Director of Education for the Child Advocacy Center.
