Spring Semester Spotlight

Katie Stegman - Dietetics Intern

Katie StegmanKatie Stegman is a dietetics major who is currently completing her internship. Her rotation includes the UK Good Samaritan Hospital, Kenton County Public Schools, and the Bath County Extension Office. In an electronic interview she shares her experiences.

What is your typical day as an intern like?

“At the hospital, I complete the Nutrition Care Process each day, which involves assessing each patient's nutritional status, diagnosing the nutritional issue, planning and carrying out an intervention, then monitoring and evaluating the patient's progress. I also teach a few nutrition classes throughout different departments of the hospital each week.”

What is one of the things you learned as a student that you use often as an intern?

“I use the Nutrition Care Process learned as a student and write nutrition PES (problem, etiology (cause), and signs and symptoms) statements several times every day as an intern.”

If you could share one piece of advice for other students in you major who are preparing to complete an internship what would it be?
Keep an open mind and take opportunities to try new things that challenge yourself.”
