Dr. Ann Vail The fall semester at UK is drawing to a close and the holiday season is quickly approaching. The School of Human Environmental Sciences has enjoyed a busy and productive fall semester. We honored three new inductees for our Hall of Fame, celebrated the successes of our faculty and staff, supported student success and achievement, and honored the most recent recipients of the Patricia Brantley Todd Awards of Excellence in Human Environmental Sciences. As we prepare for a much anticipated break during the holiday season, we extend warmest wishes to all of you. Enjoy time with your family and friends as we celebrate the holidays and welcome a new year.

UK announces Patricia Brantley Todd award winners
Three members of the University of Kentucky School of Human Environmental Sciences were recently named recipients of the school's Patricia Brantley Todd Awards of Excellence. Congratulations to Dr. Alexander Vazsonyi, Mrs. Debra Cotterill and Ms. Christy Nuetzman.

It's Your Reality for student athletes

Photo University of Kentucky student athletes recently participated in a financial simulation exercise designed to help them experience financial realities that may occur after college. Coordinated by Dr. Jennifer Hunter, assistant professor in the Department of Family Sciences, It's Your Reality was offered in partnership with UK Athletics.

UK Cooperative Extension agent named Professional of the Year

Photo Lora Lee Howard has been empowering Kentuckians to lead fuller, healthier lives since 1981 as a University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Clay County. Recently, she received recognition for those efforts when the Joint Council of Extension Professionals named her the 2015 Family and Consumer Sciences Professional of the Year.

Three added to HES Hall of Fame
Three women with distinguished careers in education are the newest members of the University of Kentucky School of Human Environmental Sciences. Inductees Linda Medlen Heaton and Ruth Hatchett Duncan each had a career in education spanning more than 30 years. Mary Bell Vaughan (inducted posthumously) enjoyed a career that spanned 45 years.

Photo Two UK Seniors Awarded Gilman International Scholarships
Rebecca Blair, a human nutrition major, was recently named as one of two University of Kentucky students who will receive a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Blair plans to use her scholarship to support study abroad in the Czech Republic during the spring semester.

Photo Senior MAT student spends semester studying in Milan
Senior MAT student Carli Holbrook embarked on UK's Partner program with Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI) and spent the spring semester studying at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) 4,500 miles away from UK in the beautiful city of Milan, Italy.

In December 2014, Sydney Fulkerson graduated with a B. S. in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles. Now she is a published author, and her internship guidebook is garnering rave reviews.

Photo UK Alumna Honored by National Council on Family Relations
University of Kentucky alumna Claire Kimberly is being honored as the 2015 recipient of the Cindy Winter Scholarship presented by the National Council on Family Relations(NCFR). The scholarship is given to students or new professionals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership or service in the discipline of family science, family studies, human ecology, human development or a related field.

FCS Agents Receive Regional and National Awards
More than thirty Kentucky Extension Agents for Family and Consumer Sciences earned regional and national awards from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The awards recognizing programming excellence were presented during the association's annual conference at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in November.

Photo Allen Receives ESP Administrative Leadership Award
Rosie Allen, Northern Kentucky Area Agent for Nutrition Education, was recently named as one of four national recipients of the Epsilon Sigma Phi Administrative Leadership Award. Allen's recognition paid tribute to her work to deliver high quality Extension programs.

Photo Gwishiri, Flores Join FCS Extension
Family and Consumer Sciences Extension welcomed two new county Extension agents for family and consumer sciences to campus for orientation in September. Thays Flores is an agent-at-large currently working in Crittenden County. Nicole Gwishiri is the new FCS agent in Bath County.
