UK Plaid Royalties Support Students

Students in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles are taking part in an exciting study tour this week with stops in London and Scotland.  The itinerary includes a visit to the mill where the UK Plaid wool scarf is produced.  Six students taking part in this study tour benefitted from the funds generated through the sale of UK Plaid items.  These students received travel support from the product royalties. We introduce you to each of these students.

Jordan Cobb

Jordan Cobb is a junior Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles major at the University of Kentucky. She is also a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. Jordan said, “Service work has always been important to me, and when coming to the University of Kentucky I knew that I wanted to participate in the Alternative Spring Break Program. I want to study abroad to experience the global impact of fashion.”

Kierra Harris

Kierra Harris is a junior Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles major at the University of Kentucky. She is also a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. Kierra said, “Last semester I took my first merchandising class and fell in love; I went from pushing myself to attend accounting class to not wanting to miss a single merchandising class. That’s when I knew I had found my niche. When asked the question to describe myself a couple of words come to mind such as hardworking, determined and dedicated. I show all three of these qualities through my job and school. I have had to balance working two part-time jobs and being a full time student for most of my college career.”

Madison Stephens

Madison Stephens is a junior Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles Major at the University of Kentucky. She is a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. Academically, Madison has excelled making the Dean’s List since 2009 and is currently serving as MAT Club President. She said, “Being a first generation college student has given me a sense of pride and I want to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way.  This group trip has so much to offer, unlike a trip one may take alone, and it has the opportunity to impact my thoughts and feelings about what it is that I really want to get out of life, personally and professionally.”

Courtney Bullard

Courtney Bullard is a junior Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles major at the University of Kentucky and a first generation college student. Courtney is also a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. She said, “I have different working experience in different retail settings and would be interested in seeing how things work in another country. Being able to take this trip would enhance my academic goals by giving me the upper hand by allowing me to witness firsthand what other students in my major only get to read about in textbooks.”

Susannah Treese

Susannah Treese is a Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles graduate student here at the University of Kentucky.  She is also a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. Susannah said, “My thesis topic is The Peacock Revolution and the Beatles: British Men's fashion from 1963-1968.  I plan on visiting several historical sites relating to my topic, and possibly interviewing someone who lived through it. Getting to experience London firsthand will provide me with a perspective that I couldn’t obtain by merely reading a book.”

Meredith Cinnamon

Meredith Cinnamon is a senior Merchandising, Apparel & Textiles major at the University of Kentucky. She is a recipient of UK Plaid assistance for the London/Scotland Study Tour in May. Academically, Meredith has excelled making the Dean’s List every semester since 2008 and served as President of the MAT Club in 2010. She said, “It is my goal to take advantage of every opportunity given to me in every aspect of my life.”

Congratulations to all of these outstanding students!
