Gaetke Receives Research/Extension High Impact Award

Lisa GaetkeCongratulations to Dr. Lisa Gaetke, Professor, Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition.  On November 15, she was recognized as the 2012 recipient of the College of Agriculture Research/Extension High Impact Award.  This annual award recognizes outstanding translation and integration of research results into extension programs that have resulted in positive community impacts.

Dr. Gaetke’s award honors her work with the UK Superfund Research Program.  She leads the Community Education Core through which the Superfund Community Action through Nutrition program has been developed and implemented.  The goal of the program is to empower individuals in affected communities to take proactive steps for their own health through nutrition-related interventions.  More than 200 individuals have been reached with nutritional counseling and education.  This work has been conducted in partnership with Theresa Howard, Harlan County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences and Maryellen Garrison, Henry County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, who were also recognized during the award presentation.

The School of Human Environmental Sciences applauds this outstanding work and the partnership with Dr. Gaetke, Theresa Howard and Maryellen Garrison.
