Faculty & Staff


Mary received her B.S. and M.S. in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles from the University of Kentucky.  Upon completion of her degrees she transitioned into an instructor role and began working with other faculty members on research projects.  In 2013, Mary accepted the Academic Program Coordinator position in the Department of Retail and Tourism Management.  Mary provides advising support to students and focuses on curriculum upkeep and recruiting/retention strategies.

Mary has conducted research projects related to athlete endorsements, and completed her thesis on athlete endorsement effectiveness when athletes were involved in personal scandal.  Mary’s thesis has recently published in the International Journal of Retail Distribution and she is currently working on a study assessing the likelihood of purchase intention from Lexington shopper’s towards Ghanaian fabrics.  Mary has a strong research interest in small business opportunities and strategies.
Course Instruction
  • MAT 114: Introduction to Merchandising
I have worked with Dr. Spillman on looking at the impact or likelihood of Ghanaian products selling in Kentucky; I have an interest in the Ghanaian culture.  I also have a continued interest in athlete endorsements as well as, small business strategies and effectiveness.
