Internship Spotlight

Summer is a busy time for HES students to complete internships. This series will spotlight students and their intern experiences

Name: Carmen Eby

Major:  Dietetics

Internship Location:  UK Good Samaritan Hospital (Food Service Systems Management and Medical Nutrition Therapy) and Tweens Nutrition and Fitness Coalition (Community)

What is your typical day as an intern? On a typical day in my medical nutrition therapy rotation, I assess my patients for a couple hours in the morning. Then, I go on the floor for about an hour to see them, specifically checking to see what's going on, how they're doing and what they need.  I then go back to the office and complete patient charts.

How are you applying classroom knowledge in your internship? I am learning every day, but I have been using a lot of my medical nutrition therapy knowledge from class.

What is one key thing you have learned during your internship? I’ve learned how to adjust when working with difficult people.

What advice would you share with other students who are preparing to complete an internship?  Prepare for anything, and respect your preceptor or supervisor.
