UK Family Center Relocates and Expands
The University of Kentucky Family Center began operations in the late 1980’s and has been an integral part of the graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy.  Through the Family Center, student therapists in have the opportunity to see clients as part of their training.
Recently, the Family Center re-located from its original facilities on the 3rd floor of Funkhouser Building to newly renovated space on the second floor of Scovell Hall.  The move allowed the Family Center to add additional therapy rooms and improve the space available for staff and administration.  The Center has also added a Director of Clinical Services.

The relocation also provided an opportunity to upgrade the equipment used to support clinical services and training. In the past, standard video and audio recording and one-way windows were used to supervise therapist-interns.  Now, through state-of-the art computer based digital systems, faculty can work with interns and serve the needs of clients much more effectively.

The UK Family Center provides family services to the UK community through the REFER program, through services in Fayette County schools, and to families in the entire Bluegrass area.  Services include:

    * relationship issues

    * premarital counseling

    * marital/couple therapy

    * therapy for divorcing people

    * family therapy

    * marital and family enrichment

Other issues and problems dealt with at the clinic include:

    * parenting and child discipline

    * family violence

    * remarriage and building step-families

    * school problems

    * eating disorders

    * single-parent families

    * marital and family communication

    * caring for elderly parents

An open house scheduled for October 22 from 3-6 p.m. will provide visitors with an opportunity to tour the new facilities.
