Alumni Donation Adds Color to Erikson Hall

The front porch and entrance to Erikson Hall has been improved with a new splash of color thanks to Human Environmental Sciences (HES) alumnus Nancy Wills and her husband, Steve, an alumnus of the College of Agriculture.  The couple recently delivered two large planters to campus for the Erikson Hall entry.  The mixed planters contain a variety of annual flowers and ornamentals and beautify the steps leading to the front entrance of Erikson.

Nancy Wills is an active HES alumnus.  After earning her bachelor’s degree at University of Kentucky, Nancy completed a master’s degree at University of Maryland.  Her career included 25 years as Extension Home Economist in Boone County, Kentucky followed by several years teaching in the Cincinnati Public Schools.  Since 1999, Wills has enjoyed using the skills from her education in her many retirement activities.  She has held a variety of alumni association leadership positions, including serving as president of the former College of Human Environmental Sciences Alumni Association.  She currently serves as an alumni representative for the UK Plaid Project Advisory Board.

Steve Wills, an alumnus of the UK College of Agriculture, also worked with the Cooperative Extension Service.  He served as a county extension agent for more than 19 years.  Steve currently serves as the executive director of LANCO, Inc. and Midwest Landscape Network, two business management associations of 25 select firms that are involved in sharing information and best practices in order to compete in today's business environment.

Nancy and Steve are proud to have two children who are also Human Environmental Sciences alumni.  Their daughter, Laura, holds a degree in dietetics and their son, John, has a degree in family studies.  Nancy and Laura recently traveled with students from the Department of Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles for a 10-day study tour in London and Scotland.

Ann Vail, Director of the School of Human Environmental Sciences shared, “I have always believed that the learning environment matters. Beauty creates an invitation to learn, reflect, and contemplate. The beautiful planters provided by Nancy and Steve signal to our students that they are entering a space that is stimulating, welcoming, and a place to join other like-minded students.”

The School of Human Environmental Sciences extends our sincerest thanks to Steve and Nancy Wills for their gracious contribution.
