Production of black and golden-brown perithecia in a cross between G. graminicola strains M1.502 (melanin deficient) and M5.001 (wild type for melanin). M1.502 was inoculated on the left side of the leaf, and M5.001 was inoculated on the right. The light colored perithecia result when M1.502 acts as the female parent, while the darker perithecia result when M5.001 acts as the female.
