Dean of the College of Agriculture since 2001, Scott Smith has served Kentucky agriculture since 1978. He began his career at UK as an agronomy researcher whose field of expertise was nitrogen in soils. He later became chair of the agronomy department and most recently served as associate dean for research.
Dr. Smith has conducted research and taught on soil science, publishing more than 50 research articles about the impact of agricultural practices on soil productivity and environmental quality. He is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy.
A native of central New York, Dr. Smith holds B.A. and M.S. degrees from Cornell University. He completed his doctorate from Michigan State University in 1978.
Dr. Smith serves as Dean and Administrative Head of Land Grant Programs.
