Education

  • September 2010. PhD. Title: “Bases filogeográficas y morfológicas de la diversificación del género Dysdera (Araneae, Dysderidae) en Canarias”. Degree in Zoology (Sobresaliente Cum Laude). Dept. Biología Animal, Universidad de La Laguna (Spain).
  • June 2002. Degree in Biology (Zoology and Marine Biology); Universidad de La Laguna (Spain).

Research Interests

My main research interest is the study of evolutionary biology, focuses in adaptive radiations by combining molecular and morphological approaches. I have been working mostly in phylogeny, phylogeography and morphology of the spider genus Dysdera in the Canary Islands. My current research project aims reveal the factors that promote morphological diversification due to food specialization. This project will address some fundamental evolutionary questions, combining systematics and evolution of this group of spiders with prey preferences and nutritional experiments, besides molecular prey detection approaches to decipher the role of specialization in morphological evolution of Dysdera spiders.
