Why is it needed?
Kentucky is better known as the “Horse Capital of the World”, and we don’t know how many horses are in the state, where they are located, or how they are impacting the economy. A survey of this magnitude has not been done since 1977. Knowing the population of equine in the state as well as the effect on the economy is important to inform policy change, provide data for equine related businesses, disease surveillance, and tracking changes and trends within the industry.
