Appearance:

Very shiny or glossy black with variable amounts of yellow or white crossbands that may resemble a "chain-link" pattern. Often gives rise to a salt and pepper appearance. Adults can reach 3 to 4' in length.

Notes:

Eats snakes, lizards, mice, birds, and eggs. Occurs in a variety of habitats but often found near water. When cornered will vibrate tail, hiss, and strike.
