Appearance:

Adults reach 40 to 50". A beautiful snake with a glossy black back and red or pink belly that extends up onto the sides alternating with black. Tail has a sharp spine.

Notes:

Eats sirens, amphiumas, frogs & fish. Prefers shallow ponds and wetland with abundant coarse woody debris and plants.
