Appearance:

Like most watit is stout bodied. Adults er snakes range to 3' in length. Look for dark, often black-bordered crossbands, squarish spots on side of the belly, and a dark stripe from the eye to the angle of the jaw. Base coloration can vary from tan to reddish brown.

Notes:

Only found in far western Kentucky near aquatic habitats. Eats fish, frogs, tadpoles, salamanders. Usually bites if threatened or handled.
