Extension Natural Resources Educator discusses the hundreds of different products that are made from wood products. From toothpaste to baseball bats, wood plays a major role in our life and takes forms many of us would never imagine! PART 2 – MAKING YOUR OWN WOOD PRODUCTS – Laurie Taylor sets the stage for a paper making demonstration hosted by Terry Conners, UK Extension Forest Products Specialist and student assistant Kelly Orme. At the end of the lesson, participants will know how to make beautiful homemade paper for cards, bookmarks, etc.

The Kentucky Forest Stewardship Program
Half the land in Kentucky is covered in forest. The way the land is managed will have a major effect on the state’s economic and environmental well being. This program looks at how the forest stewardship program works in Kentucky. It reviews who is eligible and some of the ways land owners can develop and protect this valuable resource for the future.

Reclaiming the Future: Reforestation in Appalachia
Don Graves, Professor at the University of Kentucky Forestry Dept. explains that "Planting a tree and re-establishing a forest are two different things. We are not just putting trees back on the mine site, but trying to re-establish the funcation of the forest, which includes enhancing wildlife habitat, improving water quality and stream systems, reduction of erosion and sedimentatiion, less flooding and cleaner air."
