January 7, faculty and staff from the School of HES gathered to celebrate accomplishments from 2012 and prepare for 2013. Faculty and staff were recognized for external funding awards and scholarly publications.
2013 Building Strong Families Profiles Published
The annual Building Strong Families Profiles have been released through Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. The profiles share a picture of economic and demographic characteristics of families in each county and report the response to families to relevant FCS Extension programs.
Taking Ownership of Your Diabetes
In Family and Consumer Sciences Extension, work is underway to provide education and support to those affected by diabetes.
Kentucky Operation: Military Kids excels in 2012
The Kentucky Operation: Military Kids program enjoyed a successful year of community activities and family camps. The totals are impressive — more than 5,000 participants, 590 volunteers, 3,300 hours of volunteer service, and over $54,000 in contributions and donations to support military families in the Kentucky area!
The UK Student Dietetic and Nutrition Association (SDNA) continues to support the feeding program for the Kentucky Academy Kindergarten in Adjeikrom, Ghana. The organization recently presented a check for $1,100 to Dr. Kwaku Addo, co-founder of the Academy. The funds were raised by SDNA through donations and a series of bake sales.

Four HES alumni were among the first 20 inductees for the College of Agriculture's Hall of Distinguished Alumni. HES alums inducted posthumously included Patricia Buster, Pauline Park Knapp, Opal Hurley Mann Green and Doris Tichenor. Full story
