The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Managing in Tough Times Initiative is composed of a core group of 15 individuals representing interests in families, youth development, agriculture and natural resources, and community and economic development.

The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service recently established the The Managing in Tough Times Initiative to assist Kentucky families is managing and recovery from the current economic situation. The broad goals for the Managing in Tough Times Initiative include:
- Develop an interdisciplinary program focused on the needs of Kentucky’s citizens relating to personal and family finance for both rural and urban settings.
- Focus existing and future extension programming on the economic issues facing youth, families and farms in Kentucky.
- Identify other university and community partners to collaborate.
- Utilize the grassroots issues gathering process of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service as a starting point for program and resource development.
- Create educational products and programs with components which include direct outreach to clientele, agent training and support, curriculum development, web resource development and possible applied research.
