UK College of Agriculture engineer associate receives national recognition
Sama was among five new professionals in the field recognized. He was subsequently chosen to represent the engineering profession in USA Today's "salute to engineering" during Engineers Week 2012.
ASABE honored him with the award for creating critical design solutions for devices that have emerged as the standard for accurate air flow measurements in mechanically ventilated livestock and poultry facilities.
"Our department is very proud that Michael was selected from among the New Faces in ASABE to represent the Society for National Engineers Week," said Sue Nokes, chair and professor in the UK Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. "Michael is an outstanding young engineer, and the BAE department is enriched by his creativity and scholarship."
Sama earned a bachelor's degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2004 and a master's in biosystems and agricultural engineering from UK in 2008. Currently, he teaches undergraduate courses in the department and advises the UK Quarter Scale Tractor Team. He has co-authored several publications and has made numerous conference research presentations. He is a licensed professional engineer in electrical and computer engineering and expects to finish his doctorate in 2012.
