Wilderness First Responder Course

The National Outdoor Leadership School’s Wilderness Medicine Institute (NOLS WMI) conducted their Wilderness First Responder Training Course (WFR) at the University of Kentucky. Natural Resources and Environmental Science and UK Outdoor Pursuits co-sponsored this WFR course from January 2-10, 2012.  The course was hosted by the Department of Forestry and several outdoor scenarios took place at the UK Arboretum.

The next WFR course to be offered at the University of Kentucky will be January 4-12, 2014. Registration will open late summer 2013.

UK's Natural Resources and Environmental Science degree within the College of Agriculture is an interdisciplinary major that provides students with a broad education in the social and natural sciences. Students can focus in a variety of areas including wildlife management, conservation biology, natural resource planning, environmental soil science, water resources, forestry, etc.

The mission of the UK Outdoor Pursuits Program is to provide outdoor recreation and education opportunities for the University of Kentucky community using human–powered adventure pursuits‚ experiential education‚ and the natural environment. Outdoor Pursuits is located on the first floor of the Johnson Center, across from the climbing wall.

The purpose of the Department of Forestry is to create and disseminate knowledge concerning renewable forest resources and to foster integrated solutions to forest resource challenges for the mutual benefit of the resource and the citizens of Kentucky. This vision is achieved through excellence in the three land-grant missions of the University of Kentucky: research, instruction, and extension.
